More than 80% of the measures applied by the juvenile justice are custodial sentences, resulting in an increase of the recidivism rate. The Center gives the judges an alternative solution to minor children imprisonment. “ONESIME” was built on the experiment of the training workshops project (carpentry, sewing, gardening) in the Observation center for minors (COM) in Abidjan, for around 150 minors.

This experiment proved that the minors released with no personal follow-up and no support from their families too often persevere in deliquen- cy. In Ivory Coast, the number of training structures adapted to those minors is insufficient. That is why this new project  focuses on the creation of a rehabilitation structure for minors in conflict with the law, which offers them a real chance for reintegration.
